Although not an option for next season, Bobby Gonzalez adds an important piece to the Pirate future with the announcement that 6'8, 250 lb sophomore Joey Cameron will be transferring out of Auburn and to Seton Hall. Cameron averaged 2.3 PPG and 2.7 rebounds a game in 11.4 minutes of action for the 12-16 Tigers as a freshmen. He played in 26 of 28 games, getting 12 starts, as the young Auburn team went 4-12 in the SEC. Cameron fills a definite position of need as Grant Billmeier and Stan Gaines will graduate after this season, leaving oft-injured John Garcia as the only interior player left on the current roster.

So, less than a week after securing his point guard of the future in Eugene Harvey, Gonzalez adds coveted size to the roster. Since the change from Louis Orr to Gonzalez, big men such as David Palmer, Marcus Cousin and Mike Pilgrim have left the program (Palmer landing at Iowa and Cousin at Houston). Garcia and Messy missed most of last season, and as readers have correctly pointed out, could be eligible for medical redshirts, which would make Garcia a freshmen next season and Messy a junior.

The NY Post is reporting today that Christ the King's Larry Davis will Visit SHU this weekend. The current NC St signee, like Dan Werner, has his conditional release from NC St, allowing him to vist and talk to other schools. Davis will be on campus this weekend and has already heard from Harvey about being future teammates. It is a very good chance that Davis uses one of the two remaining scholarships available for SHU.

As for the last scholarship, we still expect Gonzalez to look for size. Miek Davis of Notre Dame Prep (via Xaverian, Benjamin Banneker, etc) has been a name mentioned, as well as Werner. With at least four scholarships for 2007, we expect size to matter for Gonzalez, especially if Eugene Harvey and Larry Davis become his backcourt of the future with the versatile Kashif Pratt and energizing Paul Gause.
